What Are SPC and Laminate Parquet?
A modern alternative to natural wood parquet and ceramic tiles, built from compressed layers with a top layer that mimics natural wood grain in fine detail. It resists scratches and water, and installs over your existing floor with no demolition.
Materials and Panel Thicknesses
Available in thicknesses from 6 to 12 mm; the thicker the panel, the better the sound insulation and the more durable it is under heavy furniture. Chinese SPC panels offer higher water resistance, while German panels are known for colour accuracy and dimensional stability.
Installation Method
Installation uses a click-lock system between the planks with no glue, over a foam underlay that insulates against sound and moisture. It can be laid straight over existing tiles, and an average fitter completes 40 to 60 square metres a day.
Parquet vs. Ceramic Tiles and Marble
Parquet wins on thermal insulation and installation speed, with no cement or drying time, while ceramic wins on standing water in places like bathrooms. So parquet is recommended for living rooms and bedrooms, keeping ceramic for kitchens and bathrooms.
Frequently asked questions about parquet flooring
Is SPC Parquet Actually Water-Resistant?
Yes, SPC planks are highly water resistant and suitable for semi-wet areas such as kitchens, but they should not be left submerged in water for long periods at the edges and joints.
Can Parquet Be Installed Directly Over Ceramic Tiles?
Yes, one of the main advantages of this type is that it is installed over the existing floor without demolition, after laying only a thin insulating underlay.
What is the difference between 6 mm and 12 mm thickness?
Greater thickness provides better sound and thermal insulation and withstands heavy furniture and high traffic, while lower thickness suits lighter-use rooms and reduces the overall cost.
How long does it take to install parquet flooring in a 40-meter living room?
Usually one working day for an experienced technician, including laying the underlay, clicking the planks together and cutting at edges and corners.
